Vertical alignment of webfonts

In some cases, you may notice that a font has a different vertical centering than the text bounding box.

Fonts have “vertical metrics” values which give indications to a web browser, an app, or an operating system on how each line of text should be positioned. Each of these environments interprets those values differently. It it out of our reach to get consistent behaviors accross those environments.

One of these factory settings is defined to avoid the clipping of accented letters. Because fonts are optimized for the widest range of use-cases, they are not vertically centered.
